Wu judging for Cleveland Comedy Festival: Stand-Up Contest

Award winning director Johnny Wu will serve as a judge for the finals at the Cleveland Comedy Festival: Stand-Up Contest, on Friday, November 18, at 9:30pm at the PlayhouseSquare 14th Street Theatre.

Over 60 comedians and groups from all over the Midwest – including national headliners – will perform stand-up, sketch, and improv comedy sets; compete in stand-up comedy contests;  teach workshops; hold creative conversations; and lead a Class Clown Showcase for hilarious kids.

“As a creative person / producer / director, I think you’d be perfect in evaluating our comedians fairly and impartially,” said organizer Joe Hannum. Hannum approached Wu for consultation on pushing their comedy festival to the next level.

The Cleveland Comedy Festival began in 2008 as a celebration of local, independent comedy and has grown into much more in only four years.

Now, in 2011, The Cleveland Comedy Festival has evolved to include more shows, more diverse forms of comedy, national headliners, and some of the best local and regional comedians. Crowd participation and involvement has extended through workshops, panel discussions, and partnerships with Northeast Ohio comedy clubs.

The Cleveland Comedy Festival’s mission remains the same — to celebrate Cleveland’s comedic past, present, and future and help promote one of Cleveland’s greatest exports — our collective sense of humor and comedic talent.

The Cleveland Comedy Festival is an event that is uniquely Cleveland and continues the legacy of comedy that includes Bob Hope,  Ernie Anderson, Tim Conway, Arsenio Hall, Steve Harvey, Drew Carey and many, many others.
